29 AprThe Trollop of Christmas Past

OK – so what do you think of this ?

My husband got an email at  his school from the ‘one that got away’ 30 years ago. She wants him to visit her school  and give a demonstration of something or other – oh yeah?  It’s taken her three decades but she has  hunted him down and has come back to claim him.  In her flirty email she  wooed him with words -  she said she’s seen a photo of him on an educational website and that he is like Peter Pan. Now I do his washing and ironing and I am certain he doesn’t own a pixie hat and green tights, so she’s got that wrong.

He told me about the e-mail with a mix of shyness and smugness, and apart from watching him like a hawk I am behaving as usual  –  irritated and indifferent . Is this the best approach, I wonder, or should I up my game in response to an aggressive takeover attempt ?

  1. Hmmm, who got away from whom?
This is actually potentially dangerous stuff. From one who knows…she said, enigmatically…
The internet can be great for re-connecting to old friends but it does bring up this sort of thing too.
Give him a stern warning, I say: No funny business, Mister.

  2. p.s. Any news on the MacManus Awards?!

Hello Nuala, saw the photo of you at Cuirt – you look fab – being 8 and a half months pregnant suits you.
I agree that at face value the internet is a fast and benign way of catching up on old friends but it can be a trigger point for a lot of trouble, too. I’m intrigued by your comment about a personal experience……
The Francis MacManus top three didn’t include me. Very Well Done to the winners and I’m looking forward to hearing all 22 stories next month.

  4. I’ll tell you when I meet you about my experience – too personal for public space!
Sorry re the MacManus – next time, eh?
I’m looking forward to hearing your story – email me to let me know when it will be on.
Who were the winners, by the way? I can’t find a list on the net.

  5. Sorry, just found the list. I get irritated by these people who win the same comp twice. What’s the bloody point in that????!!! Why are they re-entering? Why are they ALLOWED to? Grrr….

Nuala, Ciaran Folan was first with ‘Hay’, Dolores Walshe second for ‘Home Help’ and Alistair Hadden third for ‘Romance’ – how happy must they be today ?
